Stigma and Self Stigmatization

Difference. When it comes to being different, humans seem to “want to have their cake and eat it too,” as the old expression goes. We want to celebrate differences or diversity, but can’t seem to help making judgments about some differences. Many, if not most of us, would be delighted to be different if we were far above the standard norm and by luck-of-the-draw were show-stopping beautiful, or had the opportunity to drive a luxury sports car or live in a head-turning, designer decorated home – we might covet these differences. However, let the difference be a crooked front tooth or a misbehaving bladder, and that would be a different story all together.
